Facebook begins rolling out Link History
Facebook’s new “Link History” setting creates a repository of all the links users click on in Facebook’s mobile app; the company’s consent pop-up says the data will be used to help target ads, Thomas Germain reports at Gizmodo. Germain says this tracking is not really new, but believes collecting user consent is intended to help Facebook preserve its ability to harvest data now that Apple and Google are enhancing privacy protection. It’s not clear how much protection opting out of Link History offers, as keylogging JavaScript monitors everything users type and do while visiting websites via the app, and links the collected information across all of Meta’s products.
